Diego de Los Santos. Bulerías 2018
This exhibition presents pictorial works that are centred on this flamenco palo, the bulería, which is so typical of Jerez.
Within this immense sea of musical styles that exist on the planet, there is a musical current that is our flamenco. The "palo" of bulerías is characterised by its ternary rhythm, which is why the repetition of three black forms in all the works; black, as flamenco is dark; rancid, deep, nocturnal... but at the same time with intense colours, as flamenco is intense.
This collection of drawings and paintings is dedicated with love and passion to flamenco.
The exhibition, consisting of 42 works ranging from charcoal to oil, opens on Sunday 10 June 2018 at 13.00 at Tambor del Llano. This space dedicated to the enjoyment of nature in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, also offers the opportunity to contemplate the art and plasticity of this artist from Jerez.
The exhibition
The buleria has zig-zagging nods that make you think it's this way when it's that way, as a mockery. This aspect is reflected in the character of the work.
The winks of the bulería "that he makes in zig zag and in a mocking way" appear in each work, as well as a series of singular videos, where some significant artists appear, created by the author himself, in which these forms seem to come to life and dance to the rhythm of bulerías.
Diego de los Santos Mateos was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1973 and has always been very close to flamenco thanks to his family. He is a civil engineer by profession and a painter by vocation, for which he has shown great interest since childhood.
From Tambor del Llano we want to contribute to revitalise the cultural life of this privileged environment of the Pueblos Balncos de la Sierra de Cadiz.
Tambor del Llano is a space for relaxation and leisure in one of the most unique places in Andalusia and we want to offer our customers, friends and neighbours the opportunity to approach the work of artists such as Diego de Los Santos, who makes flamenco his source of inspiration.
