A great circular route that allows you to visit the heart of the Sierra de Libar, crossing the Libar and Republicano plains. On the way out it crosses the small pass of Zurraque. The way back is via the Puerto del Correo. Beautiful karst landscapes, and the possibility of discovering remote and secluded places, with great natural wealth.
Circular excursion to visit the Llanos del Republicano and Llanos de Libar.
We start at the Tambor del Llano, leaving the estate along the blue inland route (Campobuches River). When you reach the river turn right, following its course upstream (1). To avoid the track that runs along the Cañada de las 10 Pilas), cross the Campobuches River and take a path that goes through the forest, without having to reach the track (2). In 10 minutes the path crosses the track, and continues between the cork oaks, climbing little by little up to the Puerto de los Vientos, joining the track on the final ascent. Here we encounter a beautiful panorama (3) as we face the rocky mountain of Los Lajares, and then descend along the track to Los Alamos. There we turn left, to take the road to the Zurraque pass, now in the province of Malaga, opening the gate that separates the farms, which also serves as a provincial boundary (4). A few hundred metres further on, we come to another gate, and a second one, when the path crosses the stream, which we have to open and leave closed, and which gives us access to the path that takes us along the rocky mountainside to the pass (5). Before reaching the small plain of Zurraque, we pass a beautiful sinkhole on our left (6). We then cross the Zurraque plain lengthwise.
You can visit the small farmhouse beforehand, by taking a slight detour. The path then turns off to the right and once again enters the holm oak grove, until it takes the path that leads us into the Llanos de Libar, where we take the path to the Fuente de Libar, in the direction of the Puerto del Correo pass. This pass is taken before reaching the Cortijo de Libar.
The Puerto del Correo (7) takes us to the Llano del Republicano. We return to El Tambor, along the Cañada Real de los bueyes de Ronda, and after passing near the house of Patagalana, we reach the fountain of Los Álamos, and take the Puerto de los Vientos again to return to El Tambor. A section of the route coincides with the GR Algeciras-Athens.
