On horseback or mountain bike, 4h, beautiful route through the Sierra de Montalate, among extensive cork oak groves, gall oak groves and dense holm oak forests. Ideal for observing fauna and flora.
Circular route leaving Tambor del Llano towards Montejaque, through the Sierra de Montalate, (without reaching Montejaque).
We leave the Tambor by the gate of the Río Campobuches (TBLL int-2. Río Campobuches), which is signposted in blue from the hotel. When we leave the farm, we turn right, following the path upstream (1) along the Cañada de las 10 Pilas, towards the Puerto del Viento. To avoid the track that runs along the Cañada de las 10 Pilas, we cross the river Campobuches to take a path that goes through the forest, without having to reach the track (2).
In 10 minutes the path crosses the track and continues between the cork oaks, climbing gradually up to the Puerto de los Vientos, joining the track on the final ascent. Here we encounter a beautiful panorama (3) as we face the rocky mountain of Los Lajares, and then descend along the track to Los Alamos. There we turn left, at the base of the crags, and take the Pozo de los Álamos track eastwards towards the Puerto de Forcila, to take the road to Montejaque, now in the province of Málaga, opening the gate that separates the farms, which also coincides with the provincial boundary between Cádiz and Málaga. The path goes through pastures, cork oaks and holm oaks to reach the Puerto de Forcila (4). There it descends towards Montejaque.
The path joins a wider track, which if we turn left we return along the river, passing by the Cortijo de los Calabazales (5), and returning along the royal gully of Campobuches. Walking upstream, we soon come to a pretty stone bridge (6) with abundant oleanders on the banks of the river. If you take the main path to the right, in two kilometres you can reach Montejaque. From there, it is also possible to return to the hotel by taxi. The route can be done in the opposite direction. It is shadier in summer, going first through Puerto Forcila and returning along the banks of the Campobuches River. Excellent to observe fauna and flora.
