A group of villages located in the Serranía de Ronda, in a region characterised by a high degree of conservation of nature and heritage.

The white villages are located on the slopes of the mountains and have a very unique popular architecture, characteristic of Andalusia. They are groups of low whitewashed houses, with narrow, zigzagging, sloping streets.

In addition to the villages in this valley, its singularity lies in the visit to the Cave of La Piletainhabited in the Palaeolithic period by the first settlers of this region.

Other attractions include the enjoyment of the traditional pork products of Benaoján, Montejaque and Arriate, or a visit to the beautiful village of Cortes de la Frontera, the gateway to the Alcornocales Nature Reserve in Malaga.

  • Grazalema is the centre of the natural park that bears its name. Famous for its textile craftsmanship
  • Benamahoma. Of great interest are the Moors and Christians festivities, which are held the first weekend in August.
  • The Forest. An orchard on the banks of the river Majaceite.
  • Benaocaz. A walk along the Roman road that linked the ancient Ocuri (5 km from Ubrique) with Lacílbula (Grazalema), still passable.
  • Villaluenga del Rosario. Known for its payoya goat cheeses.
  • Zahara de La Sierra, on the hillside and with a majestic castle on the highest part of the village.
  • Gastor, the Balcony of the White Villages
  • Setenil de las Bodegas, Cave-houses on the river and the magnificent keep.
  • Olvera. Famous for its beauty and for its excellent olive oil with designation of origin from the Sierra de Cádiz. The Vía Verde de la Sierra runs through it.
  • Arcos de la Frontera. The largest and the entrance to the White Villages of Andalusia.

This valley, close to Ronda, is characterised by a lush landscape full of chestnut trees and its white villages forged under the Muslim domination.

  • Igualeja where the river Genal rises
  • Benadalid with archaeological remains of an ancient Moorish castle converted into a beautiful cemetery
  • Benalauria, a beautiful village of Moorish origin with a Milling Museum
  • Genalguacil stands out for the layout of its steeply sloping streets. It is the only village in the province considered to be a living museum, with artistic works in its streets and squares as a result of the artistic encounters held in this village.
  • Alto Genal: Pujerra, Parauta, Cartajima, Juzcar, Faraján, Alpandaire.
  • Lower Genal: Atajate, Benadalid, Algatocín, Benarrabá, Gaucín, Genalguacil and Jubrique.
